Conquest Plan 1 – Raden Trenggana

Several dozen spears from the western border of Tuban city, several people were seen riding horses towards a medium-sized house in the middle of a hamlet. Dusk had just turned into night when they entered the finely carved courtyard of the house. At that time, clouds were seen hanging in the sky of Demak, but it seemed that it did not become a barrier for the horse riders.

When the night began to fall a little late, about three or four full moons ago, Ki Tumenggung Prabasena said, “The death of Raden Kikin was certainly beyond our expectations and not in accordance with our hopes. Even so, I want us to be able to restrain ourselves. The peace and welfare of those under the auspices of Demak are still our responsibility.”

“But I still often feel annoyed because of the arrogance of Raden Trenggana’s children,” said another tumenggung.

“Be patient, we don’t have to demand back the glory and honor that is no longer in our lap. “However, as Angger Tumenggung Prabasena said, the welfare of the people is the main task of all of you, in fact you must help Demak achieve glory like the past,” said someone who was elderly but had enormous authority. Everyone who attended the meeting was a person who had a high position in the Demak government. And now they bowed their heads waiting for words from the grandfather who had great authority.

“Grandfather, Prince Trenggana has taken the wrong path to achieve that position. “I don’t think we should help him,” said Ki Tumenggung Arya Dipa. Then he added more. “Grandfather Parikesit, I have not seen any progress made by his father and himself in terms of something that can be considered progress. So far I have only seen expansion and a desire for recognition.”

“Even though he was at fault in reaching that position, we have no right to replace him. He is your supreme leader at this time. It is only right that you are behind his back to push him forward,” said Prince Parikesit.

“Even so, he should be aware that it is the boy who should be the king,” said another person who held the rank of rangga.

“You must not let the turmoil in your hearts take over the sharp reasoning that you have,” said Prince Parikesit. He then asked, “Where is Arya Penangsang now?”

“He is under the observation of Ki Matahun,” answered Ki Tumenggung Prabasena.

“Uncle, actually I want to put Arya Penangsang back in his proper position,” said Ki Rangga Gagak Panji. He looked around while waiting for opinions to develop. But everyone remained silent waiting for Gagak Panji to reveal his thoughts.

“I have met with Mpu Badandan and talked about this matter. And perhaps, at this time, Panarukan is ready to become our last stronghold,” continued Gagak Panji later.

“Good! You have succeeded in carrying out the plan as we have discussed,” exclaimed Prince Parikesit then patted his chair repeatedly. After a while, he said again, “Raden Trenggana certainly thought it would be very easy to subdue the regions that were nearby. If that assumption is true, then it is certain that the Demak code officers were fooled by our method, emptying half the power in each duchy.”

Ki Tumenggung Arya Senguruh’s expression showed hesitation. Then he said, “It is still not clear to me about this matter as a whole.

“First, we agree not to oppose Raden Fatah. And we have done that as Ramanda ordered.

“Second, we agree not to disturb the peace of the heirs to the throne. And we have done that too.

“But now, we have gathered here with the aim of placing Arya Penangsang in his proper position. Doesn’t that mean we are disturbing the affairs between the heirs of Demak?”

“Brother Senguruh, please do not misunderstand. Arya Penangsang is the legitimate heir of Demak Bintara. And one important addition is that Prince Trenggana forced our brothers in the eastern region to recognize him as king.” Ki Tumenggung Prabasena stood up while explaining.”

What you said is true. Indeed, since Eyang Prabu abdicated the throne of Majapahit, many of our brothers have not opposed Demak Bintara and have not acknowledged it. Let’s go back again, I want us to return to Eyang Prabu’s message, that we should not touch on the issue of the throne.” Ki Tumenggung Arya Senguruh seemed to be starting to understand the direction of the meeting they were holding.

“Well, we didn’t touch it, but the reality now is that Prince Trenggana used force to get his former vassals to recognize him as king. So what? We act as if we agree and submit to him. Meanwhile, Kakang has moved many soldiers in each duchy so that no blood and lives are wasted,” said Ki Tumenggung Prabasena, “and that means we will all gather in Panarukan and ask him to return power to the descendants of Raden Kikin.”

“If he refuses?” asked Ki Arya Senguruh.

“We make him a prisoner and then force the entire Demak region to crown Arya Penangsang as king,” answered Prince Parikesit.

“Then, what is the difference between Raden Trenggana and us? In the end, violence remains the best solution according to each person’s opinion,” said Ki Tumenggung Arya Senguruh.

Time passed by until without realizing it, a harvest season had rolled since the discussion in Tuban. In a meeting at the Demak palace, Raden Trenggana said loudly, “Demak has lost its authority and sovereignty when many areas in the eastern region broke away.” Prince Trenggana’s eyes shone with lightning as he saw the people sitting in front of him. The Senapati from all levels of the soldiers gathered in one room at that time.

Then he continued enthusiastically, “Pasuruan, Surabaya, Wirasaba to the slopes of Penanggungan have recognized Demak’s authority as the successor to Majapahit. And now, I tell you that Panarukan is the starting point to Blambangan.” He then delivered the messages in their entirety. Not long afterward he dismissed the grand meeting attended by all the leaders of the soldiers from various levels.

A few days later.

Towards dusk in a house, a Senapati asked his relative who had come from the Brantas River valley, “How can we recognize their authority? While their king has not received approval from all of us.”

“Brother Arya Dipa, of course he will make an effort to subdue our brothers in the eastern region. In my opinion, this king needs recognition as the successor to our ancestors’ power,” his relative said firmly and confidently.

“Then, what are you planning to do?” asked Arya Dipa.

“As Uncle Parikesit once said when we all met in Tuban. Of course you still remember the meeting of the three or four full moons that have passed,” Gagak Panji reminded.

“Of course,” said Arya Dipa.

“I will make a visit to the eastern region. I will tell you what Brother told me now. In the meantime, maybe I will ask the dukes to gather strength in Panarukan,” Gagak Panji answered and then explained his plan briefly. Arya Dipa’s forehead wrinkled repeatedly because he was thinking hard to understand the complexity of Gagak Panji’s plan. Even so, he acknowledged the sharpness of Gagak Panji’s reasoning.
