Agung Sedayu was Deceived 2 – Uninvited Guests

Diterjemahkan dari Agung Sedayu Terperdaya 2, 3 dan 4

Agung Sedayu stepped down from the pendapa and then asked again, “Then what is your relationship with the pirate you might want to raise from the dead?”

“I am their friend.”

“And you want to take revenge for the deaths of the three of them?”

“Isn’t that natural? You, the Menoreh people, especially you Agung Sedayu, have embarrassed my group. The three of them are people who have great influence on the north coast. Their presence in my group has made our group more respected and feared by other groups,” said the man then walked two or three steps closer to Agung Sedayu.

“You have faced me, so what is your next plan?” Agung Sedayu asked as if he did not yet understand the purpose of the arrival of the strange man in his yard.

The man laughed loudly and deliberately filled his voice with reserve energy so that the roof of the house vibrated and dry leaves flew. The sound of prolonged laughter immediately squeezed the chests of Agung Sedayu and Sekar Mirah. However, both of them were people who had been forged through various tests in martial arts so that the husband and wife increased their endurance slowly. Sekar Mirah’s heart beat loudly because she could not accept the rough treatment of the uninvited guest but she saw Agung Sedayu giving her a sign to restrain herself. So with that, Sekar Mirah fortified her body with reserve energy channeled to her chest and closed her hearing.

As if nothing had happened, Agung Sedayu calmly said, “Death in a duel is the result that should have happened if it was done to the end. Therefore, I am not at all guilty, Sir.”

The man increased his attack by adding layers of reserve energy. Suddenly he shouted loudly, “Actually by accepting the challenge of the three of them, you have been guilty, Agung Sedayu.” He stepped back a few steps then crossed his arms in front of his chest.

Agung Sedayu frowned, “Are you aware of what you just said? Then should I reject the challenge of the three of them? Meanwhile, they are roaming around and starting to cause unrest in this neighborhood by doing evil. And now you blame me? I really don’t understand your way of thinking, Sir.”

“I know you will avoid all accusations from me. And now I have given you a warning and I can see that you two are a tough family. But the game I just played doesn’t mean I’m not demanding a ransom from you,” said the foreign guest.

“Actually, I was hoping that your arrival could be discussed properly. For reasons I can’t understand, you suddenly gave a warning.” Agung Sedayu was still holding back from saying harsh words to the person who was a few steps away from him.

“I have heard of your actions, Ki Rangga. You have absolutely no mercy on your opponents. You willfully separate people from what they love and have,” said the man who had yet to introduce himself.

Agung Sedayu laughed softly. Then he said, “Sir, I just realized that you might be someone with a strange character. You suddenly entered our yard without being invited and attacked with an unpleasant voice before we knew your name or nickname.”

The man’s face turned red like a boiled shrimp. He raised his hand and said, “People usually call me, Ki Garu Wesi. And as usual, if someone has heard my nickname from my own mouth, then that person will die soon. Including you, Agung Sedayu. And perhaps some of the people who live with you in the land of Menoreh will regret having neighbors like you. Know that I have placed some people outside this part of the neighborhood. You can order some of your soldiers to prove the truth of what I say.”

Ki Garu Wesi stared intently at Agung Sedayu’s face and the two were now involved in a tense atmosphere. Ki Garu Wesi had heard of the power of knowledge that radiated from Agung Sedayu’s gaze and Sekar Mirah’s prowess with a short spear similar to that of Macan Kepatihan. However, it seemed that he had made sufficient calculations when he met Agung Sedayu’s gaze.

“Alright,” said Ki Garu Wesi then, “I ask you to prepare. And if you feel the need for the help of the Mataram Special Forces, then you may deploy them in the not too distant future. See you!”

Agung Sedayu and Sekar Mirah were still standing looking at Ki Garu Wesi’s back that flashed quickly and then disappeared behind the trees growing in the neighbor’s yard.

“I will talk to Ki Gede, while you order Sukra to call Prastawa. I will wait for the three of you at Ki Gede’s house,” said Agung Sedayu.

“And Ki Jayaraga?” asked Sekar Mirah then.

Agung Sedayu was silent for a moment, then he said, “Let him chat longer in the rice fields. This afternoon if he doesn’t find anyone at home, of course he will go to Ki Gede’s house.”

Sekar Mirah nodded her head and walked towards the place where Sukra usually chopped firewood to deliver Agung Sedayu’s message. Meanwhile Agung Sedayu hurried off to meet Ki Gede Menoreh. On his way to Ki Gede Menoreh’s house, Agung Sedayu had a kind of doubtful feeling in his heart. He felt that the Menoreh Fief Land had endured revenge from the people he had defeated in the duel for too long. Even so, he still tried to assume the best in case Ki Garu Wesi was just bluffing and came alone.

A few moments later Agung Sedayu, Sekar Mirah and Prastawa were at Ki Gede Menoreh’s house. After Ki Gede started with a light conversation, he then said, “Of course it’s not a coincidence that Agung Sedayu can sit with Prastawa.”

Agung Sedayu and Prastawa chuckled but then they showed serious faces. Agung Sedayu said, “A person named Ki Garu Wesi has come to our house, Ki Gede.” Then Agung Sedayu told Ki Garu Wesi’s needs and the response he gave to the person.

“I feel that there is indeed something urgent even though I have not received a report from the guards. How about you, Prastawa?” asked Ki Gede.

Prastawa nodded. He then answered, “Actually I was going to report about the camp outside the Perdikan Land, Uncle. But Sukra’s notification finally made me report the situation earlier than originally planned.” Prastawa was silent for a moment while looking around. Prastawa then said that he confirmed the threat of danger received by Agung Sedayu from Ki Garu Wesi. Prastawa saw the camp that had just been set up two or three days earlier, but he could not yet make a guess because at first there were only two camps.

“Kang Santa told me that the camps had increased to dozens in number. Then I watched it with Kang Santa in the afternoon, and we saw a number of people practicing with weapons,” said Prastawa. Ki Gede listened to Prastawa’s report and the opinions of the people around him.

“I will not possibly hand you over to them, Agung Sedayu. You are a special troop leader so in this case the one who has more right to do that is Panembahan Hanyakrawati,” said Ki Gede. “And they also do not have more authority to attack the Perdikan Land.”

Prastawa shook his head. “We will hold on,” said Prastawa, “we can ask Mataram for reinforcements to defend ourselves, Uncle.”

Agung Sedayu pondered for a moment. He turned to Sekar Mirah as if he wanted to hear his wife’s opinion. Sekar Mirah nodded and grabbed Agung Sedayu’s arm. She said, “If you want to report this situation to Ki Patih Mandaraka, you are actually doing the right thing. However, if you don’t want Mataram to know about the developments, one day they will hear about it. You certainly know more about that possibility.”

“Don’t you want to talk about the whereabouts of Ki Garu Wesi’s followers with Ki Untara, Agung Sedayu?” asked Ki Gede Menoreh.

“Actually, every report we give will lead us to one goal, namely assistance. Kakang Untara will certainly send some troops to Jati Anom to strengthen the defense of the Perdikan Lands. Even if we report directly to Mataram, of course Ki Patih will order Kakang Untara to strengthen the position of the guards or special troops,” answered Ki Rangga Agung Sedayu.

“I will gather the leaders of the group of guards of the Perdikan Land,” Prastawa said, “regardless of whether there is help or not, but Agung Sedayu is a Menoreh person.”

Agung Sedayu was surprised to hear Prastawa’s words. Then he said, “I am very grateful for being allowed to live with the Menoreh people.” Meanwhile, Sekar Mirah shed tears seeing Prastawa who was ready to stand behind her husband.

Then Ki Gede said, “Alright, Agung Sedayu. You have heard what Prastawa said. This land owes you, we have all gone through a lot with you. We have achieved everything with your help, so I emphasize now that you can use whatever is in the Menoreh Land to overcome the problems that are in front of us right now.”

Agung Sedayu bowed his head, once again he gave thanks in his heart for the abundance of love from the Almighty. A moment later he said, “Tonight I will do reconnaissance with Sukra.”

As if he did not believe Agung Sedayu’s idea, Ki Gede looked at Sekar Mirah and Prastawa’s faces alternately. But they did not say a word because they believed Agung Sedayu was making the best plan for all the people of Tanah Perdikan Menoreh.

“I think it’s time for Sukra to do a more advanced job. He has the ability for this job,” said Agung Sedayu who understood the unspoken question of the three people around him.

#glossary ; Tanah Perdikan is an area that was exempted from taxes by a kingdom in the past.
